The songs on this collection come from many different countries but fit together naturally like a jigsaw puzzle that takes the listener through a a joyous musical adventure - from Africa to the Caribbean. The CD includes a 12 page booklet with extensive information about café culture, artists and songs plus an album download card. The songs featured on this collection come from many African diaspora countries: Cameroon, Congo, Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Verde, Senegal, São Tomé & Príncipe, Suriname and Cuba.|
All songs are recommended. More melodic and slower songs are tracks 1,3,4,5,6. Keep in mind that in track 6, we have Afro-Portuguese talent, songwriter Uziel Sança sharing his “Sociedade Parasita” in the traditional coladeira style of Cabo Verde, a former Portuguese colony.
If you are looking for more fast paced tracks, play tracks 2,7,8,9,10.
Track 7, Boracho, sounds like a cha-cha from Cuba but is from Suriname. Track 9, Santomense reminds me of a Santana song and the guitar solo will show you why. Lastly, track 10, by Los Angele's resident, Ricardo Lemvo, is clearly a mashup of Africa and Cuba and should get listeners on the dance floor. Look for Lemvo's performances in the Bay Area.
