ACOUSTIC TRADITIONAL FOLK
Early in Covid time, Jorma Kaukonen (of Jefferson Airplane; Hot Tuna) streamed weekly concerts from his Ohio retreat, guitar-instruction camp, and performance center, Fur Peace Ranch. This is the first of several records by Kaukonen & his friend John Hurlbut that came out of that process. Kaukonen plays lead guitar; Hurlbut plays rhythm & sings with a rough but pleasing voice. RIYL: folk singer/guitarists like James Taylor, Jackson Browne (Released in 2020)
FCC clean
1 slow. This Roger McGuinn song appeared on the Easy Rider movie soundtrack & on a Byrds album, both in 1969; 4-1/2 min guitar-jam intro, then gentle folk singing (10:22)
2 ** slow. a beautiful reinterpretation of The Impressions oft-covered hit (3:02)
3 ** slow. reflections of a life lived on the rough side, with no regrets, nicely sung (4:02)
4 slow. longing to get outta town. written by ex-Byrd Gene Clark, best known perhaps by Pure Prairie League (5:40)
5 ** slow. a beautiful song by Ry Cooder, Jim Dickinson & John Hiatt; it could be about wishing for a better life, or disappointment, or immigrants (4:09)
6 * slow. lonesome, old-timey road tune, like Jimmie Rodgers might have done (3:35)
7 * slow. memories of the old home after everyone has moved away or passed away (6:15)
8 slow. Hurlbut’s original composition about reconnecting lost relationships; meh (6:47)
