ECLECTIC AMERICANA (?)
This group has found the intersection of alternative Americana, folktronica, and soulful 1960s girl groups. The Lostines feature close harmonies of two female co-lead singers, backed by electric & acoustic guitars, keys, and drums. There’s a lap steel guitar on track 4; two fiddles on tracks 4 & 7. Add viola & cello to tracks 10 & 11.
RIYL recent records by Thee Sinseers (ZK #1152773) or Sierra Ferrell (1152188).
FCC clean
1 ** mid-tempo. A wonderfully retro & sweet song about breaking up. Sounds like the Ronettes with the full Phil Spector treatment. killer organ solo (3:02)
2 * mid-tempo. Wistful memories of past times. It’s slightly country, slightly pop (5:05)
3 * mid-tempo, bouncy pop. Regretful memories: we once had a chance but it passed (4:26)
4 *** mid-fast Cajun dance. Nashville steel guitar and Louisiana fiddles are a hoot. It’s about hooking up after a party, but very sweet, not raunchy. A very fun song (3:08)
5 slow waltz time. Patti Page-style tear jerker. “Oh, darling please come back” (4:33)
6 mid-tempo. Carole King could have written this for the Shirelles (2:26)
7 mid-tempo toe tapper. I lost my love out on the road. Hints of classic C&W (4:12)
8 mid-tempo. A bluesy song about being abandoned by mama (4:24)
9 * slow, folky, sad & nostalgic. Lovely singing with simple acoustic accompaniment (3:38)
10 mid-tempo. strange Frankenstein-like tale: Frankie has brought past-love Eva back to life by sewing together the pieces. Eva is unhappy. Good halloween song perhaps (4:26)
11 * slow. Remembering last night’s first embrace. A dreamy, oddly melancholic feel is enhanced by lush strings (5:29)
