“Moisturizer” Wet Leg
Indie rock-alternative band from the Isle of Wight in the UK. Led by Rhian Teasdale (vocals, guitar) and Hester Chambers (guitar). Follow-up to their acclaimed self-titled debut featuring “Chaise Longue.” Unbridled, spontaneous, sometimes aggressive guitar-driven tunes. Lyrics that are bold and honest in exploring relationships and life. Infectious melodies, but often with a musical edge. Solid critical reviews. RIYL: Wolf Alice, Dry Cleaning, Water From Your Eyes, HAIM.

Highly recommended: 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12. FCCs on Tracks 13-17.

1. (2:50) CPR — Restless, urgent love anthem. Mesmerizing bass line and distorted guitars. Synthesized siren effects in the choruses. Poses the question, “Is it love or suicide?” A hit single. ****
2. (2:28) Liquidize (Clean Edit) — Lighter, breezy and strummy tune that asks another question, “Love struck me down/The f— am I doing?”
3. (3:09) Catch These Fists — Punky and raucous, in-your-face guitar rocker. Great attitude. Catchy single. ****
4. (3:48) Davina McCall (Clean Edit) — Softer, sweeter and melodic. Palm-muted guitar. Flowing arrangement with Teasdale’s vocals lilting and lovely. ****
5. (2:26) Jennifer’s Body (Clean Edit) — More formulaic sugary pop. Stop-and-go rhythm. A bit repetitive.
6. (3:25) Mangetout (Clean Edit) — Energetic rocker. Solid backbeat drum track. Fun and playful shout. ***
7. (2:58) Pond Song — Sing-song-y pop with an intriguing guitar-driven lead break. Written by Hester Chambers. “I’ve never been so deep in love!”
8. (3:27) Pokemon — Smooth synth pop with sustaining chords. Falsetto vocals in the chorus. Doesn’t quite fit with the bite of most of the tracks.
9. (2:57) Pillow Talk (Clean Edit) — Big, rocking and punky. Has a cool vibe with mostly spoken, highly suggestive vocals. Very much like the UK’s Dry Cleaning band. ***
10. (3:13) Don’t Speak — Alternately softer and inviting, interrupted by bursts of distorted guitars.
11. (3:47) 11:21 — Moody and wistful. Stately tempo. Falsetto vocals with many ascending and descending arpeggios.
12. (4:02) U And Me At Home — A party celebration. Bouncy and upbeat. Laid-back falsetto vocals, except in the boisterous choruses. ***
13. (2:28) Liquidize (Explicit) — FCCs: fuck (twice), fucking — Unedited version of track 2.
14. (3:48) Davina McCall (Explicit) — FCCs: fuck, shitty — Unedited version of track 4.
15. (2:26) Jennifer’s Body (Explicit) — FCC: fuck — Unedited version of track 5.
16. (3:25) Mangetout (Explicit) — FCCs: fuck (twice), fucking — Unedited version of track 6.
17. (2:57) Pillow Talk (Explicit) — FCCs: fuck (twice), fucking — Unedited version of track 9.
