An amazing record that showcases the more wistful, intimate side of Thelonious Monk. Solo piano. Except for a couple tracks, they are all standards, and many of them OLD standards from Tin Pan Alley...
A lot of stride piano. Great stuff.
I've spent many, many hours listening to this CD.
Of the Monk compositions the stand outs are Introspection!! and the people's favorite Ruby My Dear. But all the standards are beautiful, weepy, and fractured. I suppose there is a nicer version of Everything Happens To Me on Brilliant Corners...
