Mellow straight-ahead jazz, fronted by young Canadian saxophonist. Tight quintet, sax/trumpet/rhythm, playing music that's pretty, but complicated enough to avoid being dinner jazz. Most tracks are low medium tempo. The playing is good, the songs are nice--the kind of thing that you don't have strong positive or negative impression of at first, but gets better after a few times through. Of note is Coltrane's "Lazybird" (track 7) done in 5/4 time, which gives the rhythm a little kick. Other tracks are originals, I liked 6 and 8.
