Blue note continues to mine the catalog for compilations. This is a collection of some of the funky stuff from the 1970s, very similar to the 'Blue Break Beats' compilations. Flavor ranges from soul jazz to disco with lots of vocal stuff. Check out tracks 4, 7, and 8.
1) R&B, female vocals
2) Byrd/Mizell smooth funk with female/male vocals. Slow and groovy
3) Flute groove, some [Spanish] vocals.
4) *Mid-tempo trumpet funk
5) Down-tempo female vocal cover of Roberta Flack hit
6) Disco and Jazz. Medium tempo male + Female vocal
7) **B3 treatment of of "Spinning Wheel"--Very nice groove w/ a sweet interlude at end
8) **One of my favorite Donald Byrd/Mizell brothers songs: female vocals, orchestral elements, and Byrd trumpet fit together tightly in a complex arrangement
9) Mega synth, light mid-tempo R&B
10) Rhythmic funk elements under repeating alto sax and vocal
11) Down-tempo Grant Green guitar with organ comping
