Lalo Schifrin—"The Fox" Score Movie score by Lalo Schifrin--classical rather than Schifrin’s usual jazzy style. The thing about movie scores is that the composer creates one or two themes which are repeated over and over using different instruments and tempos to serve the mood of the scene—nice for cinema but a bit tedious if you try to listen to the whole album straight through. The general mood of the theme is very wintry (dictated by the setting of "The Fox") with flute and piano featured often. Play it to set a mood or as a soundbed for your more melodramatic mic breaks "The Fox", by the way, was one of the first (1968) major Hollywood films depicting a lesbian relationship. I haven’t seen "The Fox" (it seems really tedious) but it was covered in the documentary "The Celluloid Closet", which shows the less than subtle anti-gay theme in this movie. Also look for The Kids in the Hall parody of this movie—"Intimate Circumstances" (Show #509). 1) Brief threatening piano intro, followed by slow sparse theme featuring flute 2) Piano and Violin duet 3) Looming ominous also sparse 4) Strings repeating theme 5) Marching alternating with quiet breaks, ends with scary horns 7) Threatening, low piano, bongos, harpsichord looming woodwinds 8) Lighter flute and orchestral recap of theme 11) Typical, mood changes reflected by different members of orchestra with hints of theme 12) Loungy bossa flavored female vocal number 13-17) Mostly variations on The Fox theme, generally ominous 18) Loud and jangly suspense music w/ banging on piano 19) Jazzy recap of theme, relatively cheerful Tom Purcell, July 2000 | ||
