Nasty Lo-Fi Funk. Soul Fire records is the product of Phillipe Lehman (co-founder of the now defunct Desco and Pure labels). An avid deep funk collector, Phillipe is trying to recreate the sound of the most obscure deep funk 45's. These are all new tracks, but the sound is strictly late 60's to early 70's, recorded lo-fi with levels peaking at the edge of distortion on analog equipment, then pressed on limited edition 7" vinyl. If you missed the original issues, the first 7 Soul Fire releases have been compiled on one CD, much like the Desco Spike's Choice collections. The Soul Fire stable includes Desco acts as well as others, ranging from true old school funksters like Lee Fields to younger American and European bands (Soul Command, Calypso King, etc.). Every track on this compilation is dirty, nasty funk or soul and absolutely worth playing. Start with tracks 1, 4, 5, 11, 12, 3, 7, 10, and 14.
