Piano jazz, semi-mainstream stuff with lots of abstract twists. Yes, this is Don Preston from Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. He's still in L.A. and has been nurturing his jazzier side. These aren't all blazing chaotic numbers... it's more like conventional jazz played by a sophisticated prankster. Come to think of it, that's exactly what it is. Highly recommended, esp. if you don't think you like free jazz. Abstract tastes should try #4 or 9 .... For an "easy" start, try #3, 7, or especially 8. 1- Zappa cover! Great piano solo 2- Fast/midtempo and scattery 3- Slow/mid, relaxing 4- Off-balance and abstract (with misleading title) 5- Midtempo stumbly piano theme 6- Slow, lush, a little bit haunting 7- Fast/mid, upbeat 8- Fast and breezy 9- Drifting, slow. |
