Faudel – Baida
Modern Algerian Raii music (think Cheb Mami). Faudel is called the Little Prince of Raii. The album has Arabian North African music merging with Western dance, pop, flamenco, salsa and even R&B.
Track 3 This track was a big hit on French radio during Ramadan (major Islamic festival) in Jan 1998. Its an interesting mix of Arabic-sounding music with soulful vocals (partly French) and belly-dancing kind of rhythms.
Track 5 Flamenco guitar meets Arabic vocals.
Track 7 Title track (baida = white). See track 13.
Track 12 Hip hop version of track 3. If you had to pick one of the two versions to play, play the original (track 3).
Track 13 This is the ‘oriental’ version of the title track (track 7). More layering is audible on this track. If you had to pick one of the two versions to play, pick this one.
