The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a Brooklyn, NY, band that’s been getting quite a bit of hype as one of these rock revival groups along with The Strokes. Like that band, they’re not miserable, but certainly aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. The tracks are all super sloppy with very little production, almost live sounding. Singer Karen O’s vocals have a bit of a country twang and the guitar sounds totally out of tune and the drums sound like a kid’s toy kit. Really raw, sometimes blues-y rock is the result. You’ve heard this before someplace else, but these 5 tracks are still worth a listen.
1. Real sloppy, dirty guitar work and sorta damaged country-ish vocals.
2. Soft, tinny drums and distorted guitar form the background for a pretty catchy song.
3. Vocals are almost spoken word, but then suddenly turn into speed-metal-ish screaming and noise only to turn poppy again. The same goes for the guitar and drums. Lazy proto-funk into noise into lazy proto-funk.
4. Starts out really slow and then develops into a really disorganized jam of guitars and voice.
5. Love-break up song that employs super dirty guitar and the country girl vox.
