COLL: Cass - Interpretations 3 Label: Spundae/Mute Even though I'm not a big trance fan, I think Cass is at least a good DJ. His mixing skills are pretty clean - and his track selections are quite varied. My only problem is that I disliked most of the trance-y tracks on this CD. One gets tired of epic synths. However, I loved the breaks stuff he did on CD 2 - that was some sick shit. In that senseCass is better than the various overpaid trance supa-DJs (a certain P. Oakenfold). CD 1: Try 3,8,9,10 (10 best) 1. long intro, synth bubbles, mellow beats 2. lush long synth tones, various bubbly effects, some break-y beats 3. broken beats, metallic tones, mechanical effects 4. echo-y female porn talk (several FCCs *fuck*) - kind of a boring track 5. deep-house loop w/ some fluffy synths 6. bassline repeated over & over w/ lush synths 7. dubby bassline & some conga percussion 8. trippy dub-house track w/ some mellow vocals, space-y synth breakdown 9. electro-breakbeats w/ loopy synths, big epic buildups 10. nervy synth tweaks, metallic clangs, sinister bass - cool track 11. trance w/ swirly synths & big breakdown 12. new-wave synth action - w/ robo-ized vocals of Marc Almond CD 2: Try: 1,2,4,6,7,11. 11 is rad. 1. big epic synth intro goes into jumpy broken beats - beats are cool 2. pretty cool progressive breaks - some nice electro-analog sections 3. mellow trance w/ some analog tweaks 4. thumpy house beats w/ some snappy snares - typical Terry Francis - pretty cool 5. lots of synths, nervy effects, robo-vox sayin' "Shake it" - I've heard much better versions of this track 6. some big crunchy beats & disco guitar/bassline, robo-vox too - pretty cool 7. raw crunchy beats - all-right, some techno-y stuff here - kind of pumpin' for 3 minutes 8. argh - now away from the techno and into some really lush synth fluffy trance - lost me 9. big synthy trance - but with some pretty cool effects - epic breakdown 10. trance & more trance - lush ethereal female vocal w/ some epic breaks 11. this shit is dope - sick analog bass manipulations w/ crashing breaks - excellent 12. back to trance again - loopy percussive synth effects building up big |
