Accessible jazz/bop quartet led by sax and trumpet. There's a drowsy vibe to the album, but it's not slow/sleepy music, as even the slow pieces are brisk, and the piercing trumpet keeps things bright (as on track 4). Very likeable overall, and some nice free playing here and there. 1* - Snappy midtempo 2 - Mostly quiet, slow 3* - Fast/mid, with nice solo segment in straight-bebop fashion 4* - Slow, but kicks a bit due to loud trumpet solo 5 - Perky midtempo 6 - Slow, relaxed 7* - Lots of openness, gets cooking later 8 - Midtempo, based on overlapping bleats. Gets into some nice open/free spaces, but it's annoying at first. | ||
