Album Review

Reviewed 2002-10-03
Spontaneous jazz in a trio format, led by piano and sax on most tracks. Playing tends towards the Cecil Taylor kind of squiggly abstraction, but Futterman and Levin occasionally slip into melodic, gospel-tinged passages -- as in the last five minutes of #3 or the opening passages of #5.

1- Active and abstract; Quieter towards the end
2- Two-sax squirreling, high energy
3- Long piece with some exciting group work. Quiet, fast jazz passage starts near -10:00. Last 5 mins. hit some deep and grand territory
4- Spread-out and careful
5- Big-city sunset; some very pretty block chords. Gets spastic quickly.
