Phew. This is a piece of work. I'm a Jon Rose fan but this lacks the element I enjoy the most- the narrative, the overt humor of his radio plays. This 2-disc set may appeal to fans of improvised music (but Clay and Eva are long departed!)
Craig M.s hasty synopsis: "All of Rose's stuff is General, this could be Jazz… great concept: They play in various tuning schemes (ie different differences between notes) Weird sounds…" check the liner notes. For me a problem is the way they mix the different scales, they aren't exploring their merits and strengths, instead are playing around on their carefully built & tuned instruments in a way that's ultimately pointless. This was a difficult CD to listen to. Listening again, there are some good tracks and playing one track can be engaging, but I can't bring myself to hear it all over again. On the other hand, I'm not the best Jon Rose fan as plenty of his improvisations go way over my head, thus this does too! If you already like his collaborations, this is for you.
