The Escargo-Gos, Si Vous Aimez L’Amour
Go-go, indeed. Laid back, mellow breezy surf music sung by breathy people with valley accents. Homestar Runner’s girlfriend Marzipan would like this—flowers, palm trees, la la la’s, head-bopping, not-too-important sounds of diffuse summery happiness, without too many chords to bring you down. All tracks are pretty short. I dhon’t know which to star, cause they’re pretty darn similar.

1. When we were younger—tambourine, closely miked breathy male vocals with female harmony. Very southern California-sounding. Palm trees swaying, laid back, beachy. Pretty short. Ballady.
2. Buttercups—surfy guitar, la la la’s, more steady uptempo.
3. Electricity—guitar, drums, ooooo’s in background, with a drum/guitar riff.
4. The Arctic Sea—rambling tune, kinda like a folk song sound.
5. the Pilot of a Purple Helicopter—yellow submarine on valium? closely miked, slightly out of tune vocals, with a slow merry-go-round feel. Trumpet featured. Short.
6. Hotel René—earnest acoustic guitar start; moves into boppin’ surf sound with some distortion in the electric guitars. Switches between slow and fast.
7. Springtime never ends—basically an instrumental. simple-chord jammin’, with xylophone on a simple melody. Some light aaaaahhs enter a minute in. good for ambiance, I spose.
8. the moon & stars—switches between slow and halting, and fast railroad tempo driven by drums.
9. Clair—steady midtempo; high breathy harmonies with xylophones chiming in; distortion guitars take over sometimes. Ahh,the shiny stars and the long wet grass.
10. the radio—starts w/ simple bass and guitar/xylophone, then guitar, male vocals with superclosemiked too-loud female harmonies.
11. cotton candy—double-time strumming, full sound, organ chords, male/female vocals, exuberant.
12. instrumental—it’s an instrumental. Simple melody over folky strumming. Gongs and steady high-hat. Wishful beach searching.
