Two-disc set of “electro,” “synth-pop,” “ghetto tech.” Ladytron, Chicks On Speed, and Felix Da Housecat are all featured here. I really enjoyed a few of these songs, but I know opinion is highly divided, so I’ll do my best to just describe the sound. DISC ONE 1.Spare drum beat with intermittent synth. Vocals describe a search across Europe for a “Eurotrash girl.” 2.Standard Ladytron. Keyboards, synth beat, almost girlish-sounding vocals. 3.Angular electro, upbeat. 4.Sung in French. Other than that, pretty boring. 5.Sorry, but this sounds totally 1980s. So much for “electro revival.” Not bad otherwise. 6.Very fast, with bass pulses. 7.Robotic-sounding female vocals, upbeat. 8.Bis song remixed by Adult. 9.Twinkly-sounding keyboards. 10.Starts slow with electric piano, develops a beat. 11.Slower than the other tracks. DISC TWO 1.Slight synth beat, joined by really cheesy electric guitar riff. 2.Computer beeping with hard beats in the background. 3.Slow beat, vocoded singing. 4.Heavy bass booty beat with weird vocal loop. 5.REALLY great song! Slick synth rhythm. Male vocals about being big in Hollywood. There is another version of this song with female vocals, which is also neat. 6.Somewhat disjointed with distorted vocals. 7.Morrissey-sounding vocals with melodramatic electronic effects. 8.Nothing special here at all. 9.Slower synth and bass beat drums. Cutesy vocals about love. 10.Not to sound ignorant, but the music here sounds like something straight out of a video game – one of those ones where you’re a space ship shooting aliens. 11.Almost beat-less with incomprehensible vocals. 12.Cutesy Bis vocals with various effects. |
