Michael McDaeth -- Sacred Cow Ragged, unfiltered acoustic/folk. VERY Dylan-esque singer/songwriter from Seattle - the voice is uncannily similar plus the guitar, the harmonica and the politics. Self-recorded with acoustic guitar and harmonica plus some samples and sound effects. The lyrics are mostly about America -- consumerism, lost dreams, Native American genocides, anti-government. He uses samples at the beginning of some songs- mostly snippets of cowboy movies, also one of George W. Bush on the campaign trail. The samples mesh well at times with the music and lyrics and not-so-well at others. Best tracks: 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 1. slow - starts with an echoing movie sample - lottery dreams, drinking 2. slow/mid -- George W. Bush sample at beginning/anti-consumerism/yuppieism 3. mid - starts with sample--about Native American massacres, sound effects 4. slow -- discordant vocals - 5. slow - starts with sample - variation on "Daddy's Gonna Buy You a Diamond Ring" 6. slow/mid - starts with sample - anti-consumerism/government - my favorite track 7. short (1:00) -- soft singing plus a little kid talking so some folks 8. guitar + harmonica - anti-materialism - Dylan-esque 9. two sets of overlaid vocals - doesn't quite work 10. slow/mid - samples + sound effects in middle of song - part II of track 2 11. short song - a kid playing a kazoo + guitar and some folks talking 12. slow - wheezy/raspy voice - about heroin addiction 13. slow/mid - starts with sample |
