Craig Matsumoto Reviewed 2003-02-06 | ||
Slow, mystical pieces for two horns and acoustic bass, played with a calm Buddhist-temple feel. Pleasantly pensive, with a nice atmospheric feeling without getting all new-agey. Tracks like 4 and 9 are even uptempo. The group is led by Robbie Hunsinger, a Chicago-based oboeist, joined by Chicago stalwart Tatsu Aoki on bass and Art Ensemble member Joseph Jarman. 1- Pensive improv 2- Thumb piano, nice quiet feel 3- Pleasant temple music 4- Midtempo, jumping beat 5- Slow, groany 6- Pastoral, flute-led 7- Heavy 8- Stumbly bassline, playful horn pecking 9- Asian march melody, upbeat 10- Slow, reverent |
