The Jigsaw Seen :: “Songs Mama Used To Sing” This is a quartet from LA, that came out with an album in the early ‘90s, generated some buzz and then kind of faded out. This album is all covers, done in various styles. Choice of instruments tends to be pretty diverse and the record on a whole is pretty pleasant. Nice packaging too! 1 Song from the 19th century Music has a real Velvet Underground & Nico feel, or an old Irish march song feel, something like that. 2 The Who Electric guitar with feedback, echo effects. 3 Henri Mancini Jumpy rocker with snare drum beat. 4 Yardbirds Acoustic and electric guitars with a melancholy, lethargic feel. 5 Bee Gees Poppy rock song. 6 The Hollies Catchy, upbeat song. A bit mainstream sound. 7 The Left Banke Cooing feedback that moves into a stuttery guitar ballad. 8 Arthur Lee Warbly electric guitar. 9 Scott Walker Violin or cello and acoustic guitar. 10 The Kinks Very nice reworking of this classic tune. Sounds like a lute, or something with a cello and twinkling sounds. |
