Friends Of Dean Martinez started as one of the many Giant Sand Side projects but quickly formed there own name and thang (with the departure of Joey B and John C to Calexico). This is FODM’s 5th studio record and is comprised of 2 EP’s and a full new record. The Wichita Lineman EP and 3 tracks from the Live @ Club2 EP make up the first CD. The second CD is the full new record, “On the Shore”. Although they were recorded at different times both CD’s sound like one complete album. Sound wise FODM merge their own blend of SouthWestern Moody abstract rock with sound exploration and 3D alien probe-core (it’s all the rage these days). This CD set could easily be the soundtrack to some crazy movie directed by some crazy director on LSD…This whole thing Screams E. Morricone…
CD1
1- Sound of a film projector followed by an explosive guitar feedback rock
onslaught.
2- Spagetti western acoustic with theramin sounding melody (very morricone)
3-Slow drum beat with vibro-guitar melody, gets spacier and wet.
4- Western Shuffle, slide guitar melody… slinky
5-Slow groove, slide melody again
6-Class ical guitar and slide guitar lots of verb… beat joins later, we all make love..
7- spacious slide guitar, very effected and swirlyswooos (LIVE)
8-Ballad, very pretty.. hey guess what, it had a slide guitar melody! (LIVE)
9-You guess…. (LIVE)
CD2
1-Film projector again. Space sounds enter, very dark and mysterious… builds
2-casio tango with classical guitar line… loose beat and electric guitar enter
3- Classical guitar intro… slide melody again… swingin’
4-Slow electric Guitar, hammond B3 dark strings…very cool
5- Fades in with hammond organ and the hammond leads the way
6-Creepy feeling, lots of guitar layers and plucking
7-More feedback with lite beat into nice bass groove
8- Guitar octives, hammond organ and pretty guitar melody
