One of Japan’s finest electronica artists has released yet another strange gem through Tortoise’s label Thrill Jockey. Some tracks are smooth and beat driven while other tracks are quirky experiments in texture. The standout, however, with this album is the weird as shit synth voice that is used all over the album. It’s just weird, somewhere between cracked out 50s musicals and atonal melodies. Why he’s obsessed with the synth voice I don’t know, but sometimes it works and sometimes it distracts from the beauty of the music. Regardless, there are still some great grooves and really interesting experiments here.
