Richard Buckner -- self titled

Local folkie singer/songwriter stripped down to his raw, warbly voice and guitar. These are demos of songs that eventually appeared on his other albums. In this sparse, intimate setting without any arrangements, the songs become achingly dark and haunting, and some of are even better than the fully produced versions. It’s a challenge to make guitar+voice CD able to hold one’s interest for the entire album but Buckner’s melancholic, poetic ballads and the live sound keep things interesting. Somewhat reminiscent of Howe Gelb, Nick Drake or Kris Kristofferson.
