Pipe organ and percussion indeed, recorded in the 50s, but not the solid wall of cheesy kitsch that you might expect. Faves: (1) & (6) - spooky, bombastic with lots of percussion (like, xylophone). (7) & (18) - slow, atmospheric (12) oddest version of "The Stars Fell on Alabama" Back story: Georges Montalba was a pseudonym of now (and then?) forgotten showbiz dude, Bob Hunter. Anton Lavey used to claim that it was *his* pseudonym. Liner notes include a striking photo of Lavey with his daughter "Zeena Schreck", now a Master of the Temple of Set. She backs up the anti-Lavey, pro- Hunter line. |
