Mr. Dibbs The 30th Song
Dark and moody sample and turntable based music. The cool thing about Mr. Dibbs is that he is obviously influenced by a great number of genres of music well beyond hip hop, particularly heavy forms of music like metal or punk. His stuff is usually dark, moody, down-tempo, and layered, perhaps "cinematic" is the best adjective to use. In addition, this stuff does have the funkiness of hip hop, but there?s also enough noisy stuff to keep the more adventurous soul interested. Of course, if you listen to the entire album in one sitting it does become slightly tedious but it?s pretty good in moderate doses.
1) *Dark slow, repeated female vocal sample.
2) Highlights Dibbs' obsession with strings
3) Drums and fuzz, together at last!
4) Turntable and sample craziness over slow choppy beat
5) *Whoah, cutting up the kiddy records to make something sinister
6) Flowing, swirling, the title "rhythmic soaring" says it all.
7) *Turntablism. "Where do you find time to juggle? I juggle in my mind"
8) *Live track, Dibbs on the turntables, live drums and tympani. FCC: a couple of "Fucks" during the intro and outro. If you skip the beginning 40 seconds (to ?8:19) and fade out before ?0:07, you can avoid these.
9) **Cutting up the blues, makin' it nice and noisy. Fuck Moby!
10) *Lots of rock samples, chopped to oblivion
11) Spoken poetry with accents by Dibbs
12) *Built on a slightly more up-tempo break
13) Probably longer then it needs to be.
14) FCC: lots and lots of "fucks"
