AACM member Kalaparush Maurice McIntyre, recorded in trio with drums and tuba. Live recording with middling fidelity.

Nice free-jazz session with compositions that show off gospel and New Orleans roots. Some of the best moments come when Kalaparush shows off his quieter playing, as on #6, but his more aggressive, firey solos are a treat as well.

This trio has actually been playing together for a few years, having germinated when Kalaparush heard Jesse Dulman playing tuba in the NYC subways. Neat little article and live review from 2001: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/articles/open1201_04.htm

1- Fast drums, slow declarative sax/tuba. Kind of a "world" feel at first, high-energy free-jazz interplay later
2- Starts delicate, gets into some intense tenor-sax work
3- Fast; lots of drums. Starts with a spiritual chant.
4- Gospel feel, flowing slowly, with clattery drumming
5- Midtempo; second half turns up the heat
6- Midtempo, upbeat, featuring sax solos over tuba riffs. Actually is only 10:50 long.
7- Slow & floaty, with some clowing around in the first minutes
