I thought that I was going to really like this electronica collection when I picked it up for review. It has a number of songs by artists that I really like, autechre, black dog and mouse on mars. Unfortunately for me this collection is too mellow for me and tends to border on the cheesy side. Not much on this album really grabs me. I noted the couple songs that caught my interest. 4- kind-of noisey and minimal, 10- different, mellow hip hop.

1) Autechre – Mellow song that oscillates between chill beats with synths and no beats just synths.
2) Black Dog – Another mellow dreamy song. Fairly simple beats, beep noises, light synths and slippery sounds. Black Dog became Plaid, and the sounds of both groups are similar. Ends with an out of place about a minute of faster paced beats.
((3)) Mouse on Mars – Fun slippery song with lots of synth sounds and head nodding beat. Evolves in the middle to beatless noisey sounds, but returns quickly to the beat based electronica.
((4)) Fuijiya & Miyagi – Nice droning buzz starts the song and stays in the background while the beat comes in. Strings and soft vocals come in later. Minimal.
5) Kenny Larkin – Basic beat is accompanied by varying synths and some vocals in this almost dancey song.
6) Monolake – Soft synths and slight buzzing give a new agey/soundtrack feel to this song. Beats that enter in and out of the composition change the mood.
7) Doctor Rockit – Mellow synth melody with a rapid beat. Chill.
8) H.E.A.D. -- Interesting rapid beat with squishy sounds. Head nodding and potentially dancey.
9) John Tejada -- Varied beat and synth melody with some operatic vocals towards the end. Head nodding, but not dancey.
((10)) Voice Stealer – Starts with some spoken word with a glichey piano soundbed. A soprano sings deeply afterwards with same soundbed. A slippery beat comes in and the song turns into backpack hiphop. I like the production. Interesting juxposition.
11) Mr. Velco Fastener -- It is clear the other artists on this compliation have influenced Mr. Velcro Fastener. Here we have a simple beat and dreamy light soaring synths. The songs breaks into a rougher beat, but it still doesn’t interest me.
