Morelenbaum/Sakamoto: A Day in New York

A couple of years ago, Paula & Jacques Morelenbaum and Ryuichi Sakamoto teamed up to produce a bossa-nova album “Casa”. This CD is a special studio session that captures the songs of their NYC performance. I liked all of it, but especially: 2,4,5,8,9
1. mellow intro into a lively playfulness
2. charming swinging uptempo bossa nova, cheery
3. deep and melancholy ballad – a classic of Jobim’s done beautifully
4. beautiful piano work on this ballad; an early song of Caetano Veloso
5. pretty love song – cello & piano are wonderfully balanced
6. slow and very sparse but very beautiful and sad
7. meditative, w/ some dramatic piano & cello flourishes
8. a long and tragic love song that gets somehow lighter & hopeful
9. swinging rendition of bossa classic – warm
10. another cheerful rendition of a pretty bossa nova samba
11. another meditative and pretty song that ends w/ some nice vocal melodies
