North Carolina's Fin Fang Foom is emoish hard core and maybe borderline grunge. Their sound takes me back to the early-/mid-90s indie sound. Sad, dark, smoky with overpowering grooves of meditative potential, thick guitars and lots of cymbal banging on the drums. If you like bands such as Don Caballero, Garrison and Tar, then these guys are not far from your taste. Perhaps, a little bit less rocking (think of the band Scenic) and on the lush and pretty side (in Bill's words).
PLAY: 7, 8, 6, 5,
1. Slow to mid-tempo. Sad, damp and smoky.
2. Dissonant long drawn grooves. Depressing.
3. Similar to 1 and 2 but here there's a piano.
4. Slow tempo. Depressing. Stoner...
5. Slow piano-based intro. Slow to mid tempo.
6. Don Caballero-ish power. Mid tempo to fast tempo. Dark, lush, pretty. Some dissonance. Vox enter really late in the tune. Catchy riffs and powerful grooves. Swings between fast and slow.
7. I like the vocals in this track the best. Passionate, emotional, edgy.
8. Nice guitar chops. Rhythmically jerky. Fast with slower ambient grooves in between.
9. Slow tempo. Spacy. Ambient. Nostalgic.
