yay mogwai! mogwai is the first post-rock band i listened to, so there's a fond place in my heart for these guys. don't be fooled by the title because these are not happy songs. this album is quieter, more delicate, and more pensive (i guess?) than previous albums. but don't worry, all the essential mogwai elements - gradual buildups, complex layers of sound, full-on rock out guitars - are still there. just this time, you also get to experience the softer and subtler side of mogwai. my favorites are #3, #4, #6 (!!!), #8.|
! - cool watery (?) distortions on the very indistinct vocals. you can almost call this track catchy.
! - very very minimal and quiet with a hint of asian influence or something.
!! - a quiet start building up slowly in layers. a twinkly track.
!! - subtle and beautiful.
- actual vocals but otherwise, i didn't care of this that much.
!!! - this is the definition of mogwai. it's my favorite track of the album.
! - piano and strings make me want to cry (in a good way).
!! - another piano-heavy one with various twinkly notes here and there and a strange broken-up beat. less rock and more electronic. interesting.
! - loud and chaotic. hell yeah!
