Read the notes for a fascinating history of the music on this CD. Getting a note wrong would “invite death & disaster to visit the community.” War chants, history songs, prayers, protests, even genealogies sung with no real pitch and varying meter. It’s unusual, w/field recordings of varying quality. The following are especially good/interesting: 1. Hula-like w/guitar & chorus. Mid-tempo. 2. Way cool blend of shrill voices. 4. Like a strange Baptist choir. Mid-tempo. 5. War drums. Fast w/great rhythm & energy. 9. Folksy guitar, a happy little song. 11. Big round song w/lots of voices 12. Slow, hand claps, small chorus. 14. Excellent! Bamboo drums then chorus. 15. Guitar, fem voice. Hula-like. Mid-tempo. 16. Fast claps, chorus. Bouncy. 19. More great drums. 22. A capella duet (male/female). Slow/mid-tempo. 24. Solo male vox then male chorus like marching. 9/2003 |
