Somewhere at the intersection of “Cambodian Rocks,” jazz, psychedelia, lounge music, Bollywood soundtracks, surf.... But much more sonically cohesive than such a mixed bag of influences might imply. And with wayyyy better production than “Cambodian Rocks” – now and then this ventures into studio-musician-sounding slickness and I get the heebies. But when they’re on, they’re pretty catchy. Lyrics are in Khmer; English translations (at denguefevermusic.com) reveal them to be just as sweet and swooning as one would expect from the sound. Yay pop music, the international language.

2. the “hit” from Cambodian Rocks, much less raw than the CR version
3. * slow, sweet and melancholy – lost love and broken promises
4. bewitching and slinky – dance with me, baby
6. * f/m duet – he heckles her on the street, she tells him to piss off
7. * surf spy soundtrack about… hitting puberty
8. slinky instrumental with hints of funk in the bassline
