Album Review

Trio improv: sax, trumpet, tuba. Wandering sketches of melody, more decisive than you'd expect given the lack of rhythm instruments -- they dive in, without many tentative segments. They also lock onto rhythms or melodies here and there (5, 7). Overall mood is bright and relaxed, with a mostly upbeat but careful pace, rather than an all-out attack.

Roper (improvised?) spoken word on 3,4,6,8

1- Slow crossing melodies ... ok, this one does sound a bit tentative
2*- Playful explorations, starts with fluttering solo bits
3- Jazzy trumpet w/Roper monologue about purple gums
4**- Role-playing monologue about racism; music starts skittish but develops into some strong melody
5*- Midtempo, includes some goofing around with melodies. Cool beginning: "Sun comes up, sun goes down"
6*- Spoken word, w/calm flute & trumpet. Atmospheric, with mid/fast strange riff ending
7- Features recurring riff from the trumpet.
8- Bluesy, w/spoken word
9- Slow, somber
