Many bands have used this name but this clearly the BEST one! Black Box is some pretty damn solid, basic, political & to the point, hardcore/punk ‘ala the very excellent, and criminally overlooked band, The Pist. Some other reference points for ‘ya: a faster Naked Raygun, a serious version of Fear, and M.D.C. Plus the bass often comes through real nice with a tone akin to D.R.I. on their classic “Dealing With It”.
In other words: LOTS of short, fast & loud action here. Even though this is a mere CD-R is sounds a fuck of a lot clear & even (i.e. all of the instruments/the overall mix) than any ‘ol dime-a-dozen metal-core or emo-metal or whatever. Extra points for reppin’ the North Bay (707, home of Voetsek, Victims Family & Capitalist Casualities).
((((1)))) Simple, fast & to-the fucking point hardcore! Sounding a lot like the Pist. Awesome!
((((2)))) Killer drumming & bass intro...sounding a lot like D.R.I.’s “The Explorer” except the vox more in a Poison Idea/Pist sound. Hell yeah!
(((3))) Very rad descending scale riff then a full-on Bad Brains/MDC sound (FCC: ‘fucking’)
(((4))) A fuckin' punk fight song against the shit system. Short but works on many levels.
((((5)))) Despite the potty mouth title, the lyrics are all clean. Play this ‘un next to something off of World Burns To Death’s “Sucking of The Missle Cock” album and you got some serious punk protest action!
(((6))) The Pist & early MDC mixed together whilst the kids to a chicken dance mosh in the pit.
(((7))) Fast, quick & killer tune dealing with the horror of “everyday life”
(((8))) Fast but generally melodic. Deals with privledge & ignorance - of which there’s plenty in the Shallow Alto area!
(((10)) An appropriate middle-finger to the “corporate punk” shit out there like Victory Records, Hot Topic & etc.
(((12))) Fast & rippin’ and with an AWESOME bass breakdown. Lyrics cover many topics like privledge, punk/x being ‘more than just slogans’, etc.
(((14)) :15 seconds of hardcore mayhem!
((((15)))) Fuckin’ amazing, total D.R.I.-style bass (again think “Dirty Rotten LP” and “Dealing With It”) with some awesome drumming, and again that brilliant triple threat of MDC/Poison Idea/The Pist influence (FCCs: “Shit’ 2x & ‘fuckin’ which isn’t too audible this time)
16) Much too ‘potty-mouth’ for ‘our friends’ at the FCC
17) Waaaay tooo many “fuckin’s” and “shit” here!
(((18))) Bass-heavy, simple & just 4 lines
19) Simple & to the point. The song’s longer than the explaination. (‘ala some Gilman St. bands (ha-ha!)
