I am in love with the Husbands, a local all-female tattoo-covered black-drenched band you'd see playing a lot in town (SF) these days. This is SURF INSPIRED GRRRL GARAGE ROCK. 1950s hairspray and bubble gum innocence meets Bikini Killish grrrl angst and attitude. 1950s r'n'r backbeat, surf guitar leads, intense vocals (raspy wailing leads - Sarah Reed's voice will rip your head off your shoulders - with up to 3 grrrl voices doing backing harmonies), and shit-loads of Bo Diddley influences. Throw in the mix a bit of '60s Las Vegas grind similar to the trashy pop of the Doll Rods (apparently one of the Husbands' all time favorite band). Half of this CD is cover tunes from Carol King to Bo Diddley. Hear the backing vocals and think Sleater Kinney and the Quails. At times, maybe even Sahara Hotnights. But really, all i can think of is... the Shangri-Las, a great 1960s all girl band.

Play: 8, 6, 9, 2, 13, 1

1. Crunchy-punchy guitar lead, garage lead vocals, Sleater Kinney-like backing vocals
2. Surfy guitar lead - ripping vocals.
3. Huge Bo Diddley influence!
4. Hypnotic, sinister. Fuzzed up lead - a taste of 60s psych
5. A Bo Diddley cover. Say no more.
((6)). Ripping punk rocker - power surf leads! Makes me think of... Sahara Hotnights
7. Fuzzy innocence. Garagy leads. A cover of a sweet 50s/60s tune.
((8)). another way of saying "i'm still in love with you": "i got anger - deep in my heart - yeah just for you"... i just love this tune, 'cause it comes from the heart. And it has such a fem quality. Medium to slow tempo.
((9)). Groovy punk rocker - catchy chord changes in the refrain.
10. A Carol King cover. Sigh! Can I have this dance with you?
11. Garage punk-rocker.
12. Angry loud punk rocker
13. Swinging rhythm - riot grrrl
14. 1950s bubble gum cover - cheesy!
