Highly innovative low-fi, electro-trip-pop. Sleepy vocals over deeply layered but delicately-crafted instrumentation. Dreamy, poetic lyrics. Ninth release from Chicago-based Michael Lenzi. His previous projects were Number One Cup and Fire Show. I love this disc and can't wait to explore this guy's other stuff. Start with 1, 2, 4. FCC: 1, 5. Website: http://resplendentmusic.com
=> 1. [FCC]: fucking. Mid-slow. Lo-fi and shambolic. Edge-of-sleep male vox. Multilayered, quirky, psychedelic. "It's resolution time!"
=> 2. Mid-tempo. Messy drums front and center. "When I cling to your splendor you wear me like a ring."
3. Mid-tempo, repetitive and insistent but continually evolving anyway. Ends with one measure a capella.
=> 4. Mid-tempo, starts with acoustic guitar, then noise guitar and beats. Nice swaying rhythm, plenty of fascinating noises. "When we made love, we were kicking in windows. When we made love we were scratching out zeroes... We were the stars that made the casket-builders sing." Ends with industrial percussion.
5. FCC: fuckin'. Slow, ultra-noisy gentle pop ballad with heavy-reverb vox. Like an extreme Tex La Homa or a mashed-up Hilt. Ends with backwards vox over keyboards.
6. Slow. Starts with 10 secs of soft noise, then adds atonal feedback guitar and piano. Mostly instrumental and beatless. Ends with 6 seconds of hiss and then 10 seconds of silence.
