Matt Sharp co-founded Weezer and made a lot of money, then quit, started the Rentals, quit, and then disappeared. I guess he moved to Nashville and tried to make music with more depth. These are rather simple songs – straightforward and pleasant. He is going for a stripped down organic sound, which is nice – there is clapping and steel guitar. In the last song you can hear some Weezer harmonies. He falls short for two reasons: the songs are not substantial musically or lyrically, and his rootsy approach is negated by the polished production. Yet they are not bad – they are just fine – just not very interesting. You have to admire a guy that quits Weezer at its height and releases an album laced with steel guitar.

1. * Down tempo – mellow - Acoustic strumming, pretty piano backing. Sort of a sing along.
2. Mid-tempo - steel guitar, dips into minor keys. Clapping. Meanders, not sure it deserves to be five minutes long.
3. Ballad – Piano, slow, dragging rhythm. Steel guitar is amped out to sound spacey. This one meanders past six minutes. “Visions of Johanna” is better.
4. Mid-tempo – serious homage to Dylan’s lyrical poetry. Loses steam after a promising start.
