Random Acts of Violence – Unleashing (Hamfist)
This is punk-metal from the Boston area. Or is it metal-punk? You decide. Vocals are totally punk, just spewed forth with anger and attitude, and they’re generally pretty unclean. The guitars are where the metal comes in, as there’s some serious thrash going on here. The drumming is pretty damn competent, and the bass is, well, it’s metal bass, what do you expect? It’s there, and that should suffice, even though it does have some moments where it’s allowed to shine. The overall song constructions are pretty unique, and the whole vibe I get is that these guys are having a hell of a time, aren’t too worried about pleasing anyone, would be a shitload of fun to watch play live, and even more fun to party with after the show.
Tracks:
2) Awesome drum intro, then solo, then thrash! One of the better songs I’ve heard all year long, period.
6) Another one of those cool solos to start the song off, and then it kicks into an almost poppy, punk tune with an undeniably catchy, sing-along chorus. I dig.
The rest of the songs are all pretty heavily FCC-infested.
