Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2004-03-01
“Blending environmental sounds and Balinese instruments together into a glowing, amorphous cloud of spine-tingling sound” says the one sheet. It goes on to say that Nerell takes inspiration from Jon Hassell and Brian Eno, that his music is “evocative of mist-covered mountains and slow motion waterfalls”, a “sound pool”. Finally, a one-sheet that hits the nail on the head. I would’ve described it as playing the classic 70’s Hassell/Eno collaboration on a boom box in a frog/cricket filled swamp, late at night, with ghosts trying to break into the conversation. One long track that builds and evolves. Perfect for hypnotizing your audience or use as soundbed
