The Groovie Ghoulies, which is comprised of band members Kepi (vocals and bass), Scampi (drums) and Roach (guitar), is not just your typical pop-punk, head-be-bopping, Ramones-influenced band. Every song they release is “fun” and an easy listen (although too short, at times, which describes most true, old school punk tunes). Monster Club is full of horror cartoon themes, which was the point, of course, and holds true to its hyper, jump around like a maniac, dancey sounds. A huge plus for members of the “Ghoulie Family” is that many tracks on this release were out-of-print, and have been re-recorded with Scampi (their newest in a long line of drummers) and were “re-animated with extra rocking power!” The only complaint I have about this release is I wish the girls (Scampi and Roach) would offer their vocals on some of the tracks (more than just backups) to take away from the redundancy in some of the songs. Otherwise, it has a good flow, and any random track can be played and enjoyed, even the 54-second one (good filler). potty-mouth tracks: none detected (note: rating numbers are out of 10 and following each track description) 1. Deviltown: SHORT, 54-second song; if you leave the room you will miss it (7). 2. The Lizard King: Awesome Godzilla song; new track; great for constant head-bobbing; “Go Godzilla!” (9). 3. Lookout, Here Comes Tomorrow: Comfy guitar/bass line; a bit slower, perhaps quieter, for their normally hyper sounds (8). 4. The King Kong Stomp: Excellent drum lines; singles the song out a bit (9). 5. The Beast With Five Hands: Would have been a definite American Bandstand Hit (9). 6. Don’t Go Out Into The Rain (You’re Going To Melt): Reminds me a little of the Descendents song “Wendy” (8). 7. Blood Beach: Another good drum beat; very danceable song (8). 8. The Blob: Nice intro; great bass line; renders uncontrollable head bobbing (9). 9. 50,000 Spaceships (Watching Over Me): Slower tempo; awesome guitar line (7). 10. Do The Bat: Upbeat, fun tempo typical of most pop-punk (7). 11. Running With Bigfoot: A definite hit; re-released track; a wake-up song that is fast and hard (9). 12.
