There’s more to Venezuelan music than just salsas & meringues, as this CD ably demonstrates. It’s a varied and compelling collection, with strong performances throughout. I really liked every track, but found the following to be especially worthwhile:
1. Uptempo horns, chorus, percussion…a great sound.
3. A big, brassy salsa swing.
5. Fun old-timey salsa w/nice energy.
6. Great female vox/chorus in an upbeat folk song.
7. Catchy mid-tempo Afro-Venezuelan dance w/great perc.
8. Wonderful bandola (lute) instrumental.
10. Fun uptempo harp-driven folk song.
13. A crazy-fast dance.
15. Jazzy horns, perc, male vox/chorus. Fun.
17. Wonderful vocal harmonies/perc. Strong choral anthem.
