4 kids from Las Vegas making 4 songs of semi-bearable but not awful “metalcore”. Nothing too memorable, a lot of the same formulas we’re all used to by now with these sort of bands (mostly indescripherable vocals, quiet/loud/quiet and back to loud parts aka: nicking a lot from an a lot of Converge or Coalesce albums). They seem to be shooting for more of a ‘groove’ in some places but a lot of this is just a mess..funny that some people even call stuff like this “hardcore”, though. The cover is really cool though, a nice knock off of the Chris Ware “Jimmy Corrigan” type of art.
((1)) Very metal intro, works off the quiet/loud/quiet and back to loud structure, the quiet parts are actually their better moments, as it sounds a bit like Shellac. The heavy stuff is just kind of sitting there in the ‘recycled ideas’ dept.
((2)) More of a ‘groove’ thing going on here, rhythmic & whanot but fails pretty bad when it just goes into “spazzy guy with too many tattoos & lobe stretchers going apeshit ‘bout his parents on stage” mode. Like many people in Vegas, they gambled away a good opportunity in the beginning.
(3) A bunch of mid-tempo riffs & jud-jud, ping-ping, rrrgrororrrggr! Really that’s about all there is to it.
A constipated version of Converge? You be the judge.
(4) Repetitive intro with a guitar & bass throbbing for over a minute, then it slooowly builds up. It’s to think as if these guys are just sitting around thinking “Dood just fuckin’ wait until they hear the kick ass section at 7:20!” Too much of a build up to well, more bland, jud-jud-chuggin’ screamy dude & a indecisive band who have much, too much time on their hands. Over 14 highly unnecessary minutes!
