Lush, melodic woman-pop that is pretty, not cute; sweet, not squeaky. Their rich sound may owe something to fellow Canadian Daniel Lanois, whom they thank in the liner notes. Veruca Salt and a little Sleeper come to mind. Part rock'n'roll, part delicate sad ballads - the latter, I think, are the real standouts on the album. Solid and lovely. Pick any track. Poppier: 2, 4, 8; 7 - rocks out, energetic and lighthearted; 10 - memorable melody, a little bit Morrissey. Favorites: 3 - slow, somber, with soaring guitar; 6 - a perfect polished gem, dreamy and heartful; 9 - stark and heart-tugging, will stay with you.
