Craig Matsumoto Reviewed 2004-01-03 | ||
Bebop jazz, straightforward stuff. Many tracks (2,4,12) carry a mildly Klezmer feel, or is it Mexican horns? The band is characterized strongly by the trumpet sound, bright and forceful. Relatively short songs (7 minutes max). Mostly in a conservative vein, except for the weirdness of tracks 3 and 11. 1- Fast twisty bebop 2- Slowish; Mexican feel to the horns 3- Quick and perky 4- Gentle midtempo 5*- Fast straight bop 6- Slow 7- Midtempo; mellow, warm, chintzy 8*- Mid/slow, with bright trumpet solo 9*- Fast, tumbling, madcap 10- Quiet little shuffle 11- Sparse, quiet, improv. Some quiet gentle vocals. 12- Dreamy-slow. Very melodic solos, appropriate to a closing track |
