Another entry in the jazz/electronica fusion of the Blue Series, with this disc leaning much more towards the jazz side and the electronics thrown in on top. Even though they are getting a little better at integrating the old and new, the end result is still missing a little bit (for me at least). The addition of Roumain and Ziporyn on violin and clarinet is welcome, and of course when they let William Parker loose it’s the highlight of the disc. There’s also plenty of that Shipp-style grandeur to keep things interesting. *1. Slow stately Shippian piano with solos on top *2. Computer keyboard samples with quirky improv 3. Melancholy static composition **4. Funky mellow groove with traffic samples *5. Tense mood led by violin 6. Wandering echoey journey 7. Wistful ballad 8. Angular, with lots of electronics 9. Violin-led abstract improv 10. Airy piano weighed down by heavy electronics *11. Gospel-like march 12. Creepy, foggy, tense electronics | ||
