This album is the bomb! Karen Clark-Sheard's newest cd has something for everyone - young, old, and in between.
I am taking over this review for Kesha, because I am totally in agreement about her initial reactions. This was definitely one of my favorite albums of 2003. Signature Karen Clark-Sheard riffs and melodies; complex vocals and great music make this album a must-have. Some of today's hottest artists from both the secular and Christian markets appear on this album, including J-Moss, Missy Elliot, and Kiki Sheard.
Dan's Picks: The whole album, and my favorite song can change with how I'm feeling that day, the weather, etc. Check out #s 1,2,4,5 and you at least gotta hear her do her own vocal effects on track 6.
1- Med/Fast- An invitation directed towards the Holy Spirit, welcoming Him. A great opening to any album.
2- Slow and powerful- F/Mary Mary, this song speaks to the power of the Gospel of Jesus coming and saving us. Who can be ashamed once you can recognize how much He's done for us?
3- Fast- heavy bass, kicks and guitar carry this tune written by Martha Munizzi and Israel Houghton- featured in the movie, The Gospel.
4- Slow, worship song about how things in earth declare God's love, wisdom and existence. Creation declares His glory.
5- Slow- Acoustic guitar lead with a nice piano melody. Look God is here, so take advantage. Lay down your burdens and cares and allow Him to love you.
6- A great song featuring Kierra Sheard, daughter to Karen. A call and response format oft used by Karen where she shows Kierra there's still room to get better. Taken from a song written by Jill Scott, with a Clark-Sheard twist
7- Hip/hop, Med, f/Missy Elliot, and JMoss and PAJAM on the production- tight musically with a catchy hook about going after God to fulfill what He's promised through faith.
8- Med/Fast- Great lyrics- look at all God has and is doing in you and give Him some praise!
9- Nice melody with pianos and strings- nice bass. We owe God everything.
10- Slow, with that "old record" static in the back. Where is God when you feel like everthing's going wrong? Just hold on! God is there!
11- Punchy with the stocatto leads and loud drumkits. F/ Kierra Sheard again, about challenges of life from both a daughter's and a mother's perspective.
