Album Review

Jazz/world improvisations of piano and hand percussion. Draws from the well of McCoy Tyner/modal jazz with touches of Latin, which is Sosa's main bag, but these are spontaneous pieces, touching on free-form territory although Sosa keeps things tonal (i.e. "normal" sounding) and most tracks carry a compelling rhythm. Lots of deep emotion here; don't skip the slow tracks like #11. A richly rewarding session.

The more rhythmic ones: 9,

- Pensive, deep
*- Slow. Big sweeping chords; a blustery night
- Hyper and skittish; a percussion fireball
- Lovely slow, w/wooden flute
- Slightly oddball mid/fast rhythm
- Midtempo; tensely dramatic
- Mid/fast, w/sparse metallic sounds
- Mid/fast abstract poking
*- Fast, w/rich piano riffs
- Slow & haunting, w/Tuvan throat singing(?)
*- Slow and grand, a deep longing
*- Slow; pretty in a heavy way
- Jangly; mid/fast
- Percussive low notes
- Slow and comforting, w/accordion-sounding instrument. Patient.
- Twenty-seven-second patter
