The Black Keys "The Moan" - The Ohio duo rocks out again with their usual style of rough raunchy overblown blues-rock. This EP has 2 songs previously released, and 2 that I think might be new (tracks 2 & 3). If you liked their previous stuff you'll enjoy this. It's quite lo-fi with overblown vocals and great bluesy guitar. At the base you hear major influences from northern Mississippi blues greats (see Junior Kimbrough and RL Burnside), and then they put their own brand of garage rock on top. All tracks are good. Highly recommended.
My Picks: 3, 4
Katie P. 2/26/04

1) Starts with some serious blues guitar licks. Drums come in for a slightly dragging uptempo. Vocals are pretty distorted/overblown. This is a nice blues song with some garage feel. This one is on another EP I think.
2) Starts with solid midtempo drumbeat. Ooo, this is a nice groover. Rough voice, but not as distorted as first track. Wow, some layers of bass and guitar in here near the end. Raw and rough.
3) Uptempo and a little bouncy. Ironically this is quite fun. Tambourine and everything. Nice fuzzed out guitar near the end.
4) Uptempo and totally fun. Psychedelic blues with a rough raunchy sound. This is off the 2nd full-length, but it¡Çs faster than that version.
