Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2004-03-25 | ||
Another super cool Chris Cutler led avante prog’ish, guitar based, experimental electro project/collaboration (see also Vril). “The music seems to change course frantically…at will” the one sheet says quite aptly. Super intelligent compositions, all instrumental. Some mighty fine stuff, file up there with the best of Soft Machine, King Crimson, Miles….wow! 1) scaley, upbeat, proggy, mathy 2) slower weirder for sure, cool treatments, all the while driving 3) scaley guitars, dark impending turns sorta upbeat dancy in a Fripp way when electro breakbeats appear 4) halting, mellow sparse brief 5) spacey, sparse, like a Zappa interlude 6) all over the map prog 7) chill, brief 8) brief spazz 9) dissonant start develops heavy bassline, tone 10) funky, swingy, dark, weird w/ live show samples 11) collage-like, varied 12) (oops I missed this one, check it yourself, no fcc threat) 13) doomy dark minor tone, picks up ~3 min, then back 14) piano+organ, off time, very Birdsongs of the Mesozoic feel 15) sci-fi trippy synths, ambient, evolves into experimental collage then full on prog |
